I understand how easy it is to become overwhelmed by the weight of the world. There are so many things going on around us (especially over the last couple of years) that can cause our hearts and minds to be unsettled, afraid, and discouraged. If you’re anything like me, your mind has a tendency to wander and wonder.

At times it may feel like the darkness is overcoming, but that is not how the story ends. We have a reason to take heart. This is only temporary.

There is good news in the midst of the mess, it’s the hope of a Savior. A perfect man stepped into a broken world and turned it all around. He brings restoration where there seems to be nothing but destruction.

2 Samuel 22:20 says, “He rescued me because He delighted in me.”

We are His delight, His joy, and His treasure. He paid the ultimate price for our redemption because of His great love for us. The debt of our sin was paid in full through His sacrifice because to Him, we were worth it. Even a glimpse of a love like this is overwhelming. We can’t comprehend it. There is no one and nothing like Him. We don’t have to work for our salvation or earn our value. We simply have to believe in Him, receive the sacrifice He made on our behalf, and follow Him as He leads us into what He has in store for our lives according to His purpose.

According to Hebrews 12:2, “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

He makes himself available to ALL who come to Him. There is no one too far gone for the gift of grace He freely gives. He pursues the hearts of those He created, but gives us the choice to accept Him. When we turn to Him and surrender our lives to Him, He leads us in the truth and the direction we should go and stays with us every step of the way.

He gives hope to the hopeless, rest to the weary, and beauty for brokenness. He provides peace to the hearts that are weary and restless and abundant joy that surpasses our circumstances and understanding. He is the light in the darkness and when we live for Him, we carry the hope found in Him alone and we have an opportunity to share it with the world around us. He says that we are the light of the world.

Keep your eyes fixed on the One who strengthens your faith as you trust Him, the One who redeemed you because He delighted in you. He gladly gave His life and defeated death so that you and I have an eternal hope. We don’t have to fear all that is going on around us because we have the promise of His word which says that He has overcome the world.

He is  the greatest of all, seated at the right hand of God, but He humbled himself to walk this earth so that the price for our sin that separated us from Him would be paid. He left us with an example to follow while we live on this earth for the Kingdom. We are in this world but not of it. We are not only rescued, but set apart for His glory.

There is no greater love, no greater friend and Father, and no other Savior than Jesus.

When you feel overwhelmed or discouraged, remember that there is a Savior that intervened and changed the ending of the story forever.

It does not end in defeat. It ends in victory for those who love Him.

Reflecting on His faithfulness in my life has always helped me to shift my focus from the overwhelming circumstances I’m faced with to the peace I have in who He is and always will be. He doesn’t change like the world and people around me constantly do. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

He is the BEST.
